Family Home Visiting

Expectant parents and parents or caregivers of young children can receive in-home support including education on pregnancy topics, parenting skills and connections to community resources.

Description

Family Home Visiting is a voluntary service available to pregnant persons and parents or caregivers of young children. Visits can occur in the family's home, or another location preferred by the family.

A trained home visitor makes visits to provide the family support that is tailored to individual families' interests and needs, such as:

  • Helping parents and caregivers create a healthy, nurturing environment for their young children
  • Connecting families to community services, such as referrals for pregnant women to prenatal care
  • Supporting parents and caregivers in being their child's first teacher
  • Promoting positive parenting skills
  • Supporting parents and caregivers in achieving their personal goals

Additional Information

This agency works with families resettling in the United States to provide services that include home visiting for immigrant and/or refugee women who are either pregnant or have children up to age 5, referrals and resources for families seeking essentials like education access, health care, human basics, and economic supports.

The New American Families Program works to eliminate barriers to navigating a new country with different systems and rules by using the Parents as Teachers curriculum. The curriculum focuses on families in need of prenatal care up to those with children five years of age, providing them with the resources they need to thrive to promote parent-child interaction, child development, and family well-being in a home-visiting model.

Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based home visiting model that promotes the optimal early development, learning and health of children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers.
