Family and Community Resource Navigator - Family Resource Center

Navigators within local community organizations help pregnant families and those with children find and connect with local early childhood and family well-being services.

Description

Navigators help families connect with the wide variety of services and supports listed below, make referrals on behalf of families when needed, and check-in periodically with families until navigation services are no longer needed. Many navigation agencies also offer some or all of the direct services listed below. Type of direct services will vary by location.

Navigators help families connect to local supports and services, including:

  • Pregnancy support services
  • Basic needs and economic assistance
  • Disability services
  • Healthy development and screening
  • Developmental and behavioral concerns
  • Family well-being and mental health
  • Early learning and child care, including preschool and early childhood family education
  • Dental care
  • Legal services

Navigation agencies may have staff that speak a variety of languages, that live in the local community, and represent similar cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the families they serve.

Additional Information

Polk County Family Resource Centers are a place for area families to connect with different services and assistance as well as other parents for support.

The Family Resource Centers provide information on community resources, referrals to services, or assistance with the completion of applications and other paperwork. All services provided by Polk County are free to the public.

Some core services include:

  • Peer Recovery - Non-clinical recovery support to assist the transition into the recovery community. Services and support include education, advocacy, mentoring, attending recovery and other support groups, and appointments.
  • Economic Assistance - Meet with a program worker to answer questions about program eligibility or help with paperwork.
  • WIC Consultations - Meet with a WIC Worker to learn more about nutrition, support for breastfeeding, and assistance with applications for WIC.
  • Tri-Valley Opportunity Council - Help for individuals to connect to various services including transportation, emergency assistance, energy assistance, and housing support.
  • Child Support - Meet with a Child Support staff member to ask questions and get helpful information about child support for your family.
  • Career Force - Get help with a Workforce Development Representative that can assist with your job search.
