Minnesota Birth Center

Birth Center

Pregnancy care and childbirth services for low-risk deliveries

Description

A licensed Birth Center offers a comfortable, home-like setting in either a separate building or in a hospital. They provide complete maternity care for parents through their pregnancy, labor, birth, and new parent experiences. Birth centers support natural childbirth and try to avoid the unnecessary use of technology. They do not use some procedures such as continuous electronic monitoring or epidurals, and are intended for women with low risk deliveries. Primary birth attendants can be nurse-midwives, doulas, family doctors, or obstetricians. Centers have trained professionals and equipment to provide care in the case of emergency situations.

Birth centers typically offer:

  • Complete prenatal care
  • Childbirth education
  • Labor and delivery services
  • Alternative methods of pain relief
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Postpartum follow-up care
