Comprehensive Child Wellness Assessments

Outpatient clinic serving children ages 0-10 years old who have been adopted or placed into foster care.

Description

The Adoption Medicine Clinic is an outpatient clinic serving children ages 0-10 years old who have been adopted or placed into foster care. Comprehensive Child Wellness Assessments will evaluate the physical, developmental and mental health of a child.

It is critical, no matter the age when separation occurs, children receive proper assessment from trauma informed, foster and adoption specialists, to mitigate the risk of misdiagnosis or undiagnosed conditions. The Adoption Medicine Clinic works to provide screening, prevention and early intervention to address health needs of children who have experienced early adversity from lack of permanency, trauma, abuse and neglect.

Comprehensive Child Wellness Assessments are 90-minute clinical assessments where a child will be seen by a pediatrician, occupational therapist and a child psychologist. Assessments will include a head-to-toe physical examination, review of medical history, medical screening for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), developmental screening, mental health risk and assessment, lab work to screen for underlying medical conditions, referral and resource support for specialty services and continued follow-up.

The Adoption Medicine Clinic will work with families to create individualized care plans for each child based on their physical, developmental, mental and social needs. The clinic will partner with a child's care team whether it be in the community or at school to make sure their primary care physicians, therapists, teachers and caregivers understand their unique needs as they grow and develop.
