Staff within this organization are available to help pregnant and parenting families connect with supportive services in their local community.
Description
Staff help families learn about the wide variety of services and supports that may be helpful, make referrals on behalf of families when needed, and check-in with families until navigation services are no longer needed.
Resource centers may have staff that speak a variety of languages, that live in the local community, and represent similar cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the families they serve.
Many agencies also offer some or all the direct services listed below. The types of direct services will vary by location. Navigators help families connect to local supports and services, including:
- Food, housing and financial assistance
- Pregnancy support services and parenting education
- Programs and resources to support children's healthy development and what to do if there are concerns
- Early help for behavior concerns, crisis services for children and families
- Child care, preschool and early childhood family education
- Dental and medical care
- Disability services
- Legal services
Additional Information
Provides support for healthy pregnancies, births and families by offering parenting programs and one-time parenting classes. Programs are culturally focused for African American and Latino/Latinx parents, but people from all backgrounds are welcome to join
Parenting programs include a 12-week pregnancy program or a 1-year post-birth program for individuals with children ages 0-3 that offer:
- Support groups
- One-on-one support
- Family support
- Access to health care services
One-time classes provide information on:
- Prenatal basics
- Infant safety
- Lactation support
- Childbirth
