Staff within this organization are available to help pregnant and parenting families connect with supportive services in their local community.

Description

Staff help families learn about the wide variety of services and supports that may be helpful, make referrals on behalf of families when needed, and check-in with families until navigation services are no longer needed.

Resource centers may have staff that speak a variety of languages, that live in the local community, and represent similar cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the families they serve.

Many agencies also offer some or all the direct services listed below. The types of direct services will vary by location. Navigators help families connect to local supports and services, including:

  • Food, housing and financial assistance
  • Pregnancy support services and parenting education
  • Programs and resources to support children's healthy development and what to do if there are concerns
  • Early help for behavior concerns, crisis services for children and families
  • Child care, preschool and early childhood family education
  • Dental and medical care
  • Disability services
  • Legal services

Additional Information

A Family Coach provides case management and education for households in need, referrals to community services, and government benefits enrollment.

Services include:

  • Basic needs such as food, hygiene kits, items, diapers
  • One-on-one family coaching
  • Resource connections
  • Receive a referral to get a bed
  • Receive referral to Bridging
  • Receive help applying for Medical Assistance (MNsure)
  • Ramsey County navigator assistance
  • Open a College Bound Savings Account for your child born on or after 2020

Additional promotes school readiness for children ages 1 - 5 years old through one on one education sessions and group learning opportunities.

  • Small Steps provide early childhood education for children ages 12 months - 5 years old with the parents
  • Skills for Schools provides children ages 3 -5 skills needed to get ready for kindergarten
  • Thrive Visits provides families in-home visits where staff can identify child and family needs early and address health issues, provide extended learning and skill building, information about child development and help parents navigate the school system

Application Instructions

Ramsey County Navigators are are available each month at :

  • Wellstone Center from 1:30pm - 4:30pm, Third and Fourth Tuesdays
  • Neighborhood House on Montreal from 1:30pm - 4:30pm, First and Second Tuesdays
