Staff within this organization are available to help pregnant and parenting families connect with supportive services in their local community.
Description
Staff help families learn about the wide variety of services and supports that may be helpful, make referrals on behalf of families when needed, and check-in with families until navigation services are no longer needed.
Resource centers may have staff that speak a variety of languages, that live in the local community, and represent similar cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the families they serve.
Many agencies also offer some or all the direct services listed below. The types of direct services will vary by location. Navigators help families connect to local supports and services, including:
- Food, housing and financial assistance
- Pregnancy support services and parenting education
- Programs and resources to support children's healthy development and what to do if there are concerns
- Early help for behavior concerns, crisis services for children and families
- Child care, preschool and early childhood family education
- Dental and medical care
- Disability services
- Legal services
Additional Information
Provides resources and guidance for parents and families including:
- Parenting support and education
- Child development screenings
- Play groups and social events for families
- Resource referrals for basic needs services like housing, employment and legal assistance
Also offers the Father Project which helps fathers to overcome barriers that prevent them from supporting their children economically and emotionally.
- Fathers receive intensive case management and career development services providing access to supports and resources.
- Weekly parenting groups offer practical parenting skills and support from peer fathers in similar circumstances.
The Guiding Partners to Solutions program provides help gaining access to programs and community resources
