Project Clean Air Repair assists qualified clients with free vehicle emissions control repairs to support those in need and reduce air pollution.
Environmental Initiative has established partnerships with car repair shops in Minnesota to reduce emissions from older passenger vehicles. Garages are reimbursed for identifying and fixing vehicle exhaust systems in cars of lower-income residents.
Covered repairs include:
- Catalytic converters
- Evaporative emission control system (EVAP)
- EGR valves
- Oxygen sensors

Eligibility
Clients may need to be eligible for SNAP, WIC, LIHEAP, Minnesota Care, Medical Assistance, or other similar programs depending on garage requirements. Clients do not need to be currently enrolled. Verification of eligibility varies by garage and may include income verification. Nonprofit partners - The Car Care Program, Cars for Neighbors, and The Lift Garage - may require you to fill out an application to access their services. There is no additional application to access funds through Project Clean Air Repair.
