Safe Harbor Regional Navigator for Sexually Exploited or Trafficked Youth
This agency connects sexually-exploited, trafficked, or at-risk youth with resources and voluntary supportive services in their community across Minnesota.
Description
Regional navigators are part of the Minnesota Safe Harbor program and network which views youth who engage in trading sex as victims and survivors, not criminals. Regional Navigators are the main point of contact for sexually-exploited/trafficked youth and concerned caregivers and professionals. They are responsible for connecting youth to specialized supportive services, including advocacy and shelter or housing. The participants in Safe Harbor programs are treated with dignity and respect and the program recognizes their right to make their own choices.
Navigators also serve as the expert in their region on trafficking and exploitation. All members of the community are encouraged to contact the navigator when working with a young person who may be sexually exploited. Navigators can refer professionals to trainings about sexual exploitation of youth and how to access the Safe Harbor Network of Resources. Navigators also support or participate in local task forces, protocol, or multi-disciplinary teams. Safe Harbor Regional Navigators follow the No Wrong Door approach, providing a single entry point to a wide variety of services.
