Crisis Nursery

Short-term child care for families going through a crisis or stressful situation


Immediate child care is available to kids that need temporary supervision. A crisis nursery is generally available on a 24/7 basis. Crisis intervention services can include child abuse prevention and family support programs.

Services are available to families experiencing:

  • Medical or mental health concerns
  • Housing problems
  • Financial strain or lapse in Child Care Assistance benefit
  • Divorce or separation
  • Family violence
  • Emergency situations

Additional Information

Provides stabilization for children coming from crisis and traumatic experiences


Children ages 3 - 11 years old. Primarily serves Hennepin County, but out-of-county referrals will be considered.

Application Instructions

Shelter referrals are taken from the Intake Unit at St. Joseph's Home for Children and all clients have active cases with Hennepin County Human Services and a Public Health Department Social Worker. Out-of-county referrals are considered and accepted on a case-by-case basis.
